Christmas Limelight 2019

Twig always looked forward to Christmas.

She had waited all year.
Finally with December arriving,
she loved the look of festively dressed shops
and loved their familiar, happy Christmas music,
celebrating the birth of Christ the Lord.

Yes. Christmastime really was the most
wonderful time of the year.

The Christmas tree was now up,
fully decorated and filled with twinkling lights.

Twig searched,
but could not find any sign of the
Christ Child
in the decorations adorning the tree.

She decided to take a wander
to see if she could discover
where He might be.

Twig spied a little Drummer Girl.

Although her drum sounded out a nice rhythm...

...the drummer girl was trying hard
to accompany the sound of cymbals.

Over yonder, a frazzled little monkey
was frantically trying to play a set of cymbals.

The decorations seemed quite over the top this year.
Highly embellished and full of pageantry.

Twig came across a couple of jesters, with their pink pooch.

The jesters seemed exhausted
and appeared to have just finished a performance of some sort.

Twig thought it best to leave them to rest a while.
As she continued on in her wandering.

On closer inspection,
Twig was finding herself surrounded with more jesters.
Jesters of every shape and size.

(this one is for you Janette...to see where this amazing jewel ended up!)

Goodness. So many performers!!

ALL of them
wanting to steal the LIMELIGHT
at Christmas.

Twig was a bit overwhelmed with so much drama and performance,
so she felt the need to escape the mayhem...

In another section of the Christmas decor,
Twig found a less raucous crew.

Though dressed in fine clothing
and playing with beautiful wooden toys
Twig thought to herself that
these girls all looked a bit bored with their existence.

It was then that Twig caught a glimpse
of something that reminded her
of what she had been searching for...
a hint of the Christ Child.

But this little hint was soon overcome by
so much pomp and spectacle
surrounding Twig.

Fancy clothes, sparkling bling and displays of refinement
every which way Twig looked!

ALL designed to capture ones attention.

THAT carriage! Goodness gracious.
Such an exhibition of pageantry.

Those inside that carriage were having certain issues...

The Mouse King was thoroughly
enjoying the ride.

But... Lily Bug was not used to sharing
her personal space with an uncouth rodent.

So much around, to distract and charm
this Christmas!

To grab the limelight.
Demand attention.

But Twig never lost sight of
the real reason for the  season.

It really is just all about a special gift given to us so long ago.

An incredibly generous and gracious gift.

“For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
 – John 3:16

Wise men still seek Him.

May we all have a very
blessed and joyful Christmas,
2019
as we celebrate His birth.

love and best wishes

Vicki.
